Samegrelo

Samegrelo region is located on the Kholkheti lowland. It consists with two historical-geographical provinces – Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti.

In Samegrelo we meet all kinds of landscape, characterized for total west Georgia: Kolkheti humid subtropical, Kolkhetian mountain forest, dark-coniferous forest of Caucasus middle mountain, high mountain sub-alp and alp landscapes.

Samegrelo climate is also variety. There is humid subtropical climate in the lowland. The average annual temperature in January is +4+6 Grade Celsius, the summer is hot (+22+23). The annual precipitation (1500-2000mm) is spread almost regular.

The less precipitation is in May. The nature of Samegrelo includes numerous unique phenomenon and monuments. Besides the unique nature of Samegrelo, this region has original atmosphere – hospitality, tasty and unique dishes, unrepeatable songs and etc.

Kholkheti is not only simple geographical place for Georgia. Kolhida, Egrisi, Lazika – the reported territory in chronicles of different nations and in different times – is the pride of Georgian culture and state. The kolkheti Kingdom was located in the south-western Caucasus, on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. Here, on the coast of river Tekhura, one of the tributary of the river Rion-Pazisi, in the village Nokalakevi was located one of the main centre of Kolkheti Kingdom – Tsikhe-Goji, at the end of IV-th century B.C. the residence of Egrisi Head – Kuji.

In the first century was founded one of the first state-unit in Georgia – Egrisi (Lazika) – capital Nokalakevi (Arkeopolisi, Tsikhe-Goji) – reserves the great interest with its structure of city-planning, defense system, bathes, in point of arranging of water-piping and canalization, cult buildings and etc.
